13 May 2010 UK Charity Hosts International Conference on Outdoor Learning and Play
School grounds professionals from around the globe will gather in the UK to share their expertise in an international event that aims to explore the potential of the school grounds- The World Outside the Classroom.
The conference, aimed at teachers, landscape architects, local authorities and wildlife and play specialists will offer delegates ground breaking inspiration with experts sharing best practice from Europe, America, Australia and Japan.
The event will take place over a period of three days (29th June – 1st July) with the first day taking place at The Coombes Primary School, which has an international reputation for innovative outdoor learning and play.
Delegates can be inspired by taking part in practical lessons with the pupils throughout the day, concluding in a presentation about the development of the school’s approach to the outdoors over the past 35 years.
On day two participants can take a tour of exemplar and innovative UK school grounds whilst the final day will bring experts together from across the globe to share their vision and experience of school grounds use and design. Delegates are able to choose from attending one, two or all three of the days.
The World Outside the Classroom –organised by the national school grounds charity, Learning through Landscapes- will be based in Winchester, where the tour of UK schools will begin.
Catherine Andrews, the Chief Executive of Learning through Landscapes comments,”This 20th anniversary conference is a milestone for outdoor learning and play. It’s a unique opportunity for experts from around the world to present a wealth of inspiring and innovative practice that transforms school children’s lives across the globe. Hosted by children at an exemplar primary school, the event will take delegates to demonstration schools around the South East of England and provide hands on experiences of tried and tested techniques that really make a difference to the way our outdoor environments can benefit children.”
