LTL’s aim was to get as many UK schools as possible to pick a project, exhibit their work, and temporarily change their grounds into a public art display. We are also encouraging the participating schools and early years settings to open their ‘Gallery in the Grounds’ to parents and the wider community.
School grounds provide a space that enables children to truly express themselves, in ways that aren’t possible in the confines of the classroom - from messy art to huge scale sculptures- the possibilities are endless.
How does it work?
NSGW runs for one week every year often looking at one particular theme.
The Exhibition Mission aimed to help schools celebrate and create art that is not limited by the constraints of the classroom walls, experimenting with large scale models, sculptures, messy materials, large sketches, and art made from natural materials, whilst also creating a brighter outdoor space your school.
We provided a fun and challenging range of gallery ideas and resources to get children of all ages outdoors and active – plus tips and support on how to turn your grounds into an event that parents and the local community can attend. You can still see them here
"The Junior School turned their playgrounds into an Art gallery for National School Grounds week, to celebrate the outdoors and their learning. There will be many exhibits from all years of the Junior School, from sunflowers to Chinese fish painting, from poems to sculptures, weaving to French and an express visit from a friendly dinosaur! There will also be photographs of our children playing and exploring different subject areas in our beautiful school grounds." Thetford Grammar School
